Dud shemesh to you!

It has been a real trial for me, coming from Toronto where we now recycle or compost just about everything, to do neither here. Plastic bottles go to cages on the streets but everything else goes into the garbage can.

On just about every roof, however, is a solar water heater – dud shemesh. Under the bathroom sink are valves that draw from the rooftop tank or the gas heater. The sun heats the water to a scalding temper- ature – far hotter than the heater.

Call me strange, but it is so satisfying to stand under a hot shower knowing that no gas or coal or nuclear energy was necessary to generate this pleasure. Dud Dalton.
